STARS - Scottish Training for Alcohol Retailers and Servers Course

The STARS Course (Scottish Training for Alcohol Retailers and Servers) is a legal requirement under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 for staff involved in the sale or service of alcohol.

It is designed for individuals who do not hold a Personal Licence but work in licensed premises, ensuring they understand their responsibilities and operate in line with Scottish licensing laws.

This course must be completed by staff and signed off by a Personal Licence Holder, typically the Premises Manager or business owner.

How the course works

The STARS course is delivered online through an easy-to-follow e-learning platform.

• Duration: approximately 2 hours (as required by law)
• Format: online training accessible anytime
• Suitable for: staff who sell or serve alcohol and do not hold a Personal Licence

Once completed, the training must be supervised and signed off by a Personal Licence Holder to confirm compliance.
