Course Overview

If you hold a Scottish Personal Licence, you are legally required to complete refresher training within 5 years of your licence issue date to ensure it remains valid.

This Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (Refresher) course is designed for existing licence holders who need to update their knowledge and stay compliant with current legislation. 

The course is delivered fully online, allowing you to complete your training and exam from the comfort of your home or workplace.

How the course works

Once enrolled, you will receive access to the online training platform where you can complete the refresher course at your own pace.

After completing the training, you will sit the online exam using your computer or laptop. A webcam is required for remote invigilation.

Exam information

The SCPLH refresher exam consists of:

• 40 multiple-choice questions

• Pass mark: 28 correct answers

• Duration: 1 hour

The exam is completed online using your own PC or laptop with a webcam.

Certification

Upon successful completion, you will receive:

• Highfield Qualifications e-certificate

• Hard copy certificate within 5 working days

This certificate confirms you have completed the required refresher training.

Important deadlines

To remain compliant with the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005, you must:

• Complete refresher training within 5 years of your licence issue date

• Submit your certificate to your Licensing Board within 3 months of that 5-year anniversary

• Renew your Personal Licence every 10 years

• Submit your renewal application no later than 3 months before expiry

Failure to meet these deadlines may result in your licence becoming invalid.
